Implement a feedback system where Resident Advisers can submit comments and concerns without having to go through their Resident Director

Resident advisers should be able to submit comments and concerns directly to the head of University Residences and to avenues outside of the department that have some authority. Resident Directors are usually effective at communicating our concerns to the department but, in instances when they are not, it is vital that we have an avenue outside of the RDs. It is unfair to limit the RA feedback system to RDs only, especially as RDs are reminded of their at-will status as employees and may not be able to use their voice to advocate for us out of fear for losing their jobs. We are demanding that University Residences formalize a more inclusive evaluation system that holds some power or authority and must respond within a certain time transparently.

Develop and implement policies that prioritize communicating with Resident Advisers about the ongoings in their communities and any concerns they may have
Create an evaluation system wherein residents can comment on issues in the residence halls that they do not feel comfortable bringing to their Resident Advisers

We believe in equal opportunity for improvement and are asking that there be a system wherein residents can bring concerns or complaints to people other than the Resident advisers and RDs in their communities. residents do not feel comfortable expressing their opinions to their Resident advisers or RDs but do not know where else to bring their concerns. The organizational structure of University Residences should be made clear to all residents and a feedback form should be widely available.

Resident Advisers are rarely informed about situations happening in our communities even when it involves our own residents. This includes, but is not limited to: information about conduct, security incidents, residents (care reports and incident reports), and the presence of emergency services in the building; all of which we are not currently informed on. We understand the need for confidentiality, but this extends as far as being unaware of when resident are moving out, which impacts who has access to the community. We are asking for clear lines of communication concerning these types of transitions as well as any other events that have an impact on our communities.

Communication

When an RA on staff resigns or is released from the position University Residences must hire another RA midyear. The hiring timeline for these new staff members is never communicated to the other Resident advisers, and, in some cases, extra administrative tasks must be taken on by the remaining staff until the new RA is placed. We demand that University Residences establish a clear timeline for mid-year hires that is communicated to the other affected Resident advisers so that no undue stress or extra work is placed on them.

Establish a timeline for midyear RA hires and increase transparency about the midyear RA hiring process
