A resident of mine was sexually assaulted by another resident in the community. My resident reported the assault to me, my resident director, and several other resources such as CASAS. My resident asked that the perpetrator be moved out of the community because they did not feel safe living in the same building as the person who sexually assaulted them. The perpetrator was not asked to move out, and continued to live in our community for the rest of the quarter. My resident ended up moving out at the beginning of next quarter because the person who sexually assaulted them had not been forced to move out. I feel that ResLife handled this situation pretty poorly. I may not have had every single detail, but I do know that one of my residents felt so unsafe in our community, even after taking all the right steps to try to solve the problem, that they felt their only option was to move out. No one should feel that way, especially in a supposedly safe residence hall.
